Context:
Frankie has a bf, Murphy. He asked her to bring him a hotplate next time she went scav'ing

Frankie doesn't want to scav alone, so she asks Butch to join her with the ulterior motive of requesting to trade with Vault 101

Butch throws a tantrum over 101

Butch doesn't know Frankie has a bf

“Back at my place? That was lousy of me.” Butch kicked a small rock down the road. His posture was not that of his usual brazen confidence and the cocksure attitude that always matched it had left too. This was uncomfortable. Difficult. “I shouldn’t have acted like that towards you. I… I don't have a lot of good memories about 101. I don't want to go back there. I don’t want you to see it.”

“I gathered.” Francine’s gaze never left the horizon. “Maybe don't take it out on me going forward?”

“Right. You're right.” He gave her a painful smile. Being called out on his shortcomings was awkward. In the past it always pissed him off, but he kind of liked it when Francine did it. She was kind about it. Everything about her was soft and good. And he wanted to be good to her. He was pretty sure she could fix whatever was broken inside him. He wanted that. To be made into whatever it was she wanted. He could do that. “I'm sorry, Frankie. Just tell me when I mess up, so we can be aces. Yeah?”

A long silence followed. Still she wouldn’t look at him. Eyes on the horizon or right at her feet as they stepped over debris. Butch was growing more uncomfortable. He’d do anything to fix this. He’d even take her to 101 at this point, if that would fix it.

Francine pointed at a small outdoors and fishing supply store they were nearing. “Wanna make it up to me?”

“Anything for a dolly like you, Frankie.”

“Anything?” Francine snickered, finally looking up at him. Dropping the tone of her voice, she playfully warned, “Butch Deloria, you should be careful what you offer to strange women.”

Butch could feel the heat rising up to the tips of his ears. She had never used such a sultry voice with him before.

Does she want—?

This far away from all those prying eyes and ears in Rivet City? Sure a hotel or abandoned house would be a little more appropriate for canoodling and possibly more, but he was game no matter the location if it were Francine.

“I need to find a hotplate.”

“O-oh. A hotplate.” All the wind left his sails. Of course she wasn’t talking about making out and all the tantalizing things that could come with it. She was a good girl. And he really liked that about her. But…

“I honestly wasn’t expecting to walk past a store like this so soon.” She smiled wide at him. “This is great!”

And just as quickly, his sails were full again.
