Montreal is the best city in Canada IMO. I'm hoping their election doesn't revert the city back to something like Toronto or *shudders* Halifax or St. John's.
A quick explainer on Montreal’s election:
The urbanist Projet Montréal party of outgoing mayor Valérie Plante has lost the election to the opposition Ensemble Montréal.
Projet deserves a *lot* of credit for Montreal’s transformation in the past 10 or 15 years to be more bike/pedestrian-friendly.

Heavy rain is looking VERY likely over the Avalon and possibly the Burin Peninsulas from late Thursday into Saturday. Computer guidance, as of late Wednesday evening, suggests there is a 90 to 100% chance that most of this area sees more than 25 mm of rain. Details to follow! #nlwx

While we were in Italy my wife kept remarking on all the small vehicles, both personal and commercial. One thing I stressed was that it's not that people in Italy necessarily like or want small cars, but rather smaller vehicles are the result of a deliberate set of policy and design choices.

People act like getting kids places without a car is Herculean. I biked three (one not mine) to the Kingfield Farmers Market, 95% on bikeways. No car seats, no stress, just laughs. The challenge isn’t moving kids, it’s redesigning cities to work for people instead of cars. #StreetsForPeople

One of the most successful pedestrian streets in the world, the Strøget in Copenhagen, was filled with cars until a 2 year pedestrianization pilot project in 1962. The opposition argued “no cars means no business,” but the street has been a massive retail success, the city’s busiest shopping street.
