The lunch time meeting before the DNRF annual visit was busy, with an introduction from Jonathan Donhauser on his project on developing a #model for #microbial #VOC emissions, followed by practise talks by @nasmillelarkemejia.bsky.social and Ida Friis, which were a success on the day of the visit!

This week we had the pleasure of hosting the @dg.dk annual visit to @voltcenter.bsky.social. As always, it was time to reflect on the success of the past year, and what a joy it was to relive all the highlights through @riikkarinnan.bsky.social's presentation!

A formal self-introduction for a less formal audience. After being with us for a while, we finally got to "formally" hear from visiting postdoc Junyu Dong about his previous work in China, and a bit of his project with #VOCs here at @voltcenter.bsky.social 😄
November 3, 2025 at 9:21 AM
There were 2 breakfast journal clubs, one led by Tamás and one led by Annika, where she presented on how #mosses can sense their neighbours through #VOCs.

@voltcenter.bsky.social has been buzzing with scientific, outreach, and social activities! Here are some more pics from the Center camera roll, starting with Mathilda's PhD startup talk, Hongliang's updates and the crafts club where spooky decorations were made to dot around the Center!

The @voltcenter.bsky.social #data #visualization #hackathon was fuelled by sandwiches, coffee breaks and pizza. After all thinking, drawing and troubleshooting, there were presentations over breakfast and przes for the best solution and most collaborative team. Everyone came up with great ideas!

Mondays are better with breakfast and #journalclub! Today our #data #analyst Tamás presented a paper on interesting methodological aspects about #normalizing #sequencing data to account for uneven sequencing depths:

Last weekend, VOLT joined the #Fungi Festival🍄🍄‍🟫.

Visitors got to hear a talk on hidden #fungaldiversity in #caves, and explored a collaborative booth. Here they could peek at fungal cultures under a microscope🔬, watch a short film highlighting the research, and learn about cave fungi and #VOCs.

We just received a "postcard" from #Barcelona!
@voltcenter.bsky.social's postdoc Cecilia Costas Selas and PhD student Eve Galen are attending the #SAME18 #aquatic #microbes #conference.
Enjoy the sunshine and the talks, posters and discussions!

Thanks @danilloalvarenga.bsky.social for organising, we had a blast!
There were even cards for teams to ask for help, and baskets with beverages to keep us fresh and hydrated!

Since we had 6 working groups, there were 6 identical escape rooms and a mystery to solve. Apparently, @riikkarinnan.bsky.social decided VOLT is leaving @dg.dk and going corporate. 😅 However, it was all a scam from the new partners and suddenly we had to escape through a time machine!

After lunch, it was workshop time! We had a guest for AI and then after replenishing our caffeine levels we kept using AI plus our human brains to come up with gaps in #VOC knowledge.
September 15, 2025 at 12:52 PM
Our center leader @riikkarinnan.bsky.social did an introduction to remind us what are centers of excellence, our ambitious scientific goals, where we are on the timescale, as well as the Center values that we are proud of.
