I think it would have to be very DX heavy with things like HMR. Perhaps even something friendly to both sides of the wire with HTML partials that get embedded upon compilation. It’s not a trivial thing to build, but perhaps the frontier that after being explored supersedes the JS frontend default

Fair point, I think it came from a place of lack in thinking about implications. It’s a hard problem and pushing work to the client isn’t equitable for less powerful devices.

Yeah that’s the gamification I mentioned., quickly becomes cat and mouse. The concept of an expensive operation would basically tax scrapers with more cost to get at the content disincentivizing them until the efficiency of the operation is optimized. Not a lot of good answers on the modern web yet.

I wonder if there’s a way to have the reader do some sort of expensive operation or use some form of signing to allow users to retrieve deobfuscated HTML allowing the server to have some guarantee it’s not a bot. Probably difficult to standardize and engineer around gamification though

The difference between being criticized for keeping too many loose cables around the house and this situation is need dependent. Somehow every time I need one they’re gone but otherwise I look like a slob

Most of the wonderful discoveries of tech in the last two decades were solving problems in brave new ways. Did we need a better C? No but people being brave gave us Rust! Maybe with the dawn of a new age of chrome will bring a new language as well
