Let the RC do it while you fix the media diversity laws.

Foreign streaming companies keenly take profits from Aussie subscribers, but resist funding Aussie content. They’re secretly lobbying to limit local quotas with Tony Burke rejecting transparency and stifling public debate. Jacqui Lambie and I are now fighting him in the ART. #FOI #auspol

#auspol we think this is a much more effective way for the regions to be heard in Canberra. Go independent!!!

Soon, there will be only a few people who can tell what’s real
This was just posted by @tbretc.bsky.social on another platform. The Chicago Sun-Times obviously gets ChatGPT to write a ‘summer reads’ feature almost entirely made up of real authors but completely fake books. What are we coming to?

It is an issue from which almost every other issue follows. Top priority and no mucking about please #auspol
You can’t lie when you sell someone a chicken, but it’s entirely legal to lie in political advertising in Australia.

The deliberate spread of misinformation by parties and other groups was a prominent feature of the recent election.

We have to fix this problem in the 48th Parliament.

It’s been argued the election would have had a different outcome with first-past-the-post voting. I cannot overstate how unsound this assumption is, writes Kevin Bonham.

The Productivity Commission’s new pillars; dynamic economy, digital capability, clean energy, care sector efficiency are welcome. But unless they are integrated into a national ambition to break out of our low value-adding trap, they risk fragmentation. #auspol

We also were hearing that an informal vote was its own version of a protest vote - that none of the candidates were worth supporting. We disagree with this tactic, but it’s important to find out why it’s happening #auspol

Can the term ‘cloud fascism’ help us understand – and resist – the hard right? | Ece Temelkuran
Like clouds, far-right ideology moves here then there with absolute randomness. The danger is that those who can, shrink under their umbrellas, warns political commentator Ece Temelkuran

Fascinating! We would also like to see this broken down into local media as well, not just the big publications #auspol
Love this data visual.
It will still take a couple more elections until Legacy Media realise how little we're paying attention.
This is quite an extraordinary table from Streem showing how many seats each party would have won if their share of seats matched their share of media coverage during the campaign.

You're not imagining it. The Murdoch press et al didn't shut up about Dutton. Lucky no-one was listening. #auspol

While we squabble over the Murray Darling basin plan, the rivers will dry up. We must start thinking decades in advance, not next season
One of the worst droughts on record is crippling multiple states.

The predicted long-term change in rainfall is the result of climate change having flow-on effects on the way warm and cool air circulates around the globe.

Rainfall maps offer ominous insight where Australia's climate is headed
As South Australia and Victoria continue to face drought and unseasonable heat, there has been a notable absence of major rain systems. So, what's going on?

How city voters all but wiped the Liberal Party off the map
In a wipeout that began with the former Morrison government, Scott Morrison’s former seat of Cook could be the only inner metropolitan seat the party has left.

“Optically bad” - it’s optically bad to call preferencing ON “optically bad” we would think…
Andrew Bragg on ABC RN just said preferencing One Nation second was ‘optically bad’ and hurt LNP. Core to the whole issue for LNP is, was it optically bad or was it WRONG? If they continue down the path of trying to win at all costs they are destined to fail. I’m ok with that. #auspol

Australia faces an integrity crisis.

Without immediate reform, public trust in government will continue to erode.
