1/2 Picking up from yesterday, some quotes from my mother’s diary for today in 1945 aged 14 getting ready for #VEDay in #Walthamstow Food was hard to come by ‘after cycling round the town I finally swooped on one solitary loaf in a shop. No queue! Good work!

Posting here for the first time to share my mother’s diary from 7 and 8 May 1945. She was 14 living in Walthamstow and on 7 May captures the ‘undecurrent of excitement throughout the school’ and the false alarm from pupils ringing the bell as a joke. More tomorrow #VEDay #VEDay2025
