Writer, photographer, lover of green spaces and open skies.

Standing at an oblique angle to the world with a camera or a notebook in my hand.
As part of the 50th Anniversary Celebrations for the Brent River Park, I shall be holding a creative writing workshop, taking a sideways look at the stories rubbish can tell. Meet at the Bandstand in Churchfields, Hanwell at 1200, this Sunday 29th June. Bring writing materials.

What I appreciate most about the City is that amongst towering new buildings there are still human-scale streets and green spaces. In Bunhill Fields, mature trees created a canopy muffling, the sounds from City Road, birds were singing and there was a sense of calm. William Blake is buried here.

Sometimes I like to find time to wander around that odd juxtaposition of old and startlingly new which is the City of London.🧵

Stumbled on this beautiful art work beside the Grand Union Canal on the Trumper’s Way bridge in Hanwell. More of the artist’s work:- ecwoodard.com

That sounds a lot of fun. I’m glad your Dad got to join in too. It sounds a bit like what was going on at #FishguardFolkFestival last Sunday. Love live sessions!

Great gig at @cafeotodalston.bsky.social last night, even if you did mention the M word a few times @gaelynnlea.bsky.social 😱Those “Scottish Play” melodies are so evocative.

Not everyone was partying on VE Day, my mother was watching from her office in the Ministry of War. She was disappointed that her amateur dramatics performance in the evening was poorly attended #VEDay

Aurora Borealis over the Nevern Estuary tonight #NewportPembrokeshire. We need some reward after all the rain we had last night!

Calm sea and a colourful sunset at #NewportPembrokeshire Add a background of blackbirds serenading the evening. Add a single bat circling. Perffaith.

A robin's pincushion, or Bedeguar Gall, on a dog rose at Elthorne Waterside. A gall wasps lays 30 or so eggs in the leaf bud of the rose. Chemicals secreted by the hatching larvae swell the stem into this hairy gall. The pupae over-winter there to hatch out as adults in spring.

Waiting at traffic lights in Carmarthen, my eye was caught by this door and its wonderful hinges.

Goat willow catkins in all their fluffy yellow beauty, drifts of celandines and so many snowdrops along the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path. Spring is definitely here!

Little puffs of yellow from goat willow catkins along the Coast Path in Pembrokeshire. Oystercatchers calling from the estuary and the haunting cries of curlews.

Spotted my first hairy footed flower bee of the spring . I just love that name. It was looking a little sleepy still. What a face!

There’s something human about these hunched shadows from the stone gateposts .

When you want to go for a walk but wait because rain clouds are gathering, then you decide to go out anyway @brentriverpark.bsky.social Elthorne Waterside.

A grim day out there today. Got drenched twice and pelted with hail but I do like the way stone pavements hold reflections in wet weather.

Interesting to see that our winter flowering hawthorn on @warrenfarmnr.bsky.social has a friend. Ours is next to a busy road in Southall and presumably originally planted for hedging. It’s still producing buds and scant leaf despite the cold snap.

Yesterday at Wharncliffe Viaduct in the Brent River Park, the light was golden, the air crisp and the ponds frozen hard. What a day for a walk!

I second that. Newport Pembrokeshire has given me some amazing, if stormy sunsets in 2024.

Not so much of a winter 10 to be seen on @WarrenFarmNR for #wildflowerhour but I was pleased to find this hawthorn in flower again this year. It did the same at Christmas last year.
