Hans seems to really dig the final edit. Totoro… might need another minute to think about it.

Absolutely stoked with the end result from my recording session with the European Recording Orchestra – full video dropping tomorrow!

Getting to work with the European Recording Orchestra last night was a lot of fun. My very first remote session!

Doing a bit of last-minute proofreading, in preparation for a little recording session 👀

I was shocked when it made the top 5 list… but OCEANIA WINNER????

WHAT????????

I'm actually screaming.

Also fun fact, the piece I submitted was recorded by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra just last year. Those recordings should be going up soon, so stay tuned!!

Okay sooo, CRAZY turn of events: Back in March, I stumbled across a global composer competition hosted by the European Recording Orchestra, and submitted one of my pieces on a complete whim. No expectations.

That piece was just announced as the Oceania region winner.

WHAT.

I've always loved trying to find those catchy, expressive melodies that make players' spirits soar at key moments. Here's a little sneak peek at how I've been putting together one such tune for the game Adaptory!

First ever conference talk done and dusted. Shout out to the folks at #PBP25 for being the most wholesome, most welcoming audience ever – incredibly stoked by the hugely positive response to my passionate 30-min orchestral game music rant 🧡

NZ peeps! Come watch me rant about the state of orchestral music in games at #PlayByPlay2025, where I'll be giving my FIRST EVER conference talk! But more importantly, let's talk about how an *authentic* orchestral soundtrack can give your players goosebumps… and how to land one on an indie budget 😎

Posting this a bit late, but super excited to announce that I'll be going yet another round with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra this year! They'll be recording my latest piece, which was written as a symphonic love letter to my hometown's artistic community ✍️

Went on a hike with some friends over the weekend, and we lit a campfire in the evening. What follows is a succinct summary of events:

Post-apocalyptic sci-fi "opening titles" vibes 🎶

Some friends of mine randomly embarked on a group worldbuilding project over the weekend, and so I HAD to spur them on with some fresh theme music. Haven't composed purely for fun in ages – this felt awesome.

(Still unpolished of course!)

A snapshot of some highlights from 2024: THREE gigs with our national symphony orchestra, a trip to PAX AUS to help showcase our work on the upcoming game Adaptory, and loads of other cool projects not pictured here.

It's been a VERY up-and-down year… but hopefully the momentum continues in 2025 💪

Been playing through the game Creaks (by @amanita-design.net) and my goodness, what a game – coolest art style I've seen in ages, and I especially LOVE the way the music builds as you slowly piece together each puzzle! Grinned like an idiot when the drums kicked in at the first "light bulb" moment 🔥

But let's discuss an actual gaming example. Check out this gorgeous sequence from the first 10 minutes of Ori and the Blind Forest – minor spoilers, but this happens practically right at the start of the game, so I figured I'd be able to get away with including it in this thread :)

Game devs! If you're ever looking to feature an orchestral (or orchestra-heavy) soundtrack in any of your games, here's some advice to make sure it'll turn out stunning – even when you don't have the budget to hire a full orchestra 🎶✨

Any time I submit a new music demo for Adaptory (@stormcloak.games's upcoming game), our lead dev Jevon complains about it getting stuck in her head – always a validating piece of feedback to get, as a composer 😆

Might be biased, but I think we're onto a bangin' soundtrack 🔥

Is there anything more satisfying than a clean musical day/night cycle transition? 🎶☀️🌒

This demo is taken from Adaptory – an upcoming base-building survival game that I'm working on. Check it out on Steam: store.steampowered.com/app/2201620/...

Hello, Bluesky! I'm Sai – an NZ-based freelance composer with a love for storytelling 📖

Though I draw from many genres, all of my work carries a 'cinematic' touch. I specialize in orchestral music, and I've even worked with our national orchestra on many occasions. Here's some cool stuff I've done!
