i've seen a lot of reactions to this, and i'm not saying there's no political content here, but any understanding of this result has to start from knowing that people in general report & act on probability statements as though the odds are closer to 50:50 than they really are.
Americans vastly overestimate the size of different minority groups! For example, Americans estimated 21% of the country is transgender, but the true proportion is just 1%.
