Thank you @georgierose.bsky.social and the fab team of dedicated Trustees for your support.
One of the most impactful conservation charities you've never heard of. Their handprints are all over huge UK nature successes such as otter recovery, pine marten reintroduction to England and Wales, and recovery of rare bat species. I'm so proud to be a trustee for this brilliant organisation.
As part of its 50th Anniversary, VWT has launched its '50 Years' Impact Report. As well as a look back over the past 50 years, this report looks forward to the work that still needs to be done to make a difference for threatened mammals in Britain, Ireland and mainland Europe. ➡️ bit.ly/3LzSOLG

In partnership with local authorities in West Ireland, we’ve completed our 8th modelling study to identify potential safe corridors for #lesserhorseshoebats to fly between roosts+ feeding areas. Part of the 1st #SpeciesActionPlan in Ireland for the species, we hope it will help safeguard its future.

#MartensOnTheMove had a fantastic time in the Tweed Valley training vols in pine marten den box installation. The vols gained hands-on experience picking the right tree for a den box, the safety procedures required and the roles needed for a successful installation. #NationalLotteryHeritageFund

Last week, we hosted our 2nd Pinecone Bat Making event at Colby Woodland Garden – just in time for Halloween! Delivered as part of VWT's #NaturAmByth Barbastelle Project, children got crafty while learning about some of our rarest UK bat species and we saw some fantastic batty creations on the day!

#BatWeek Ireland’s first Species Action Plan (SAP) for #lesserhorseshoebats (2022–2026) marks a major step in protecting this species. The plan, a collaboration between National Parks and Wildlife Service and @vwtireland.bsky.social, is based on research and lays out actions to restore the species.

#BatWeek Vols have used acoustic surveys to gain info on barbastelle maternity colonies for VWT's @naturambyth.bsky.social Barbastelle Project in Pembs. We have collected 1,500+ barbastelle recordings from almost 2million sound files! We’ve also put up 27 bat boxes and made roost features in trees.

Join @georgierose.bsky.social and the rest of the terrific team of dedicated Trustees helping to make a difference to threatened mammals in Britain and Ireland.
Fab opportunity to lead VWT's Board of Trustees and help to continue its wonderful work. It's a brilliant organisation that quietly works in background to do huge things - like bringing pine martens back to England and Wales. Please share and let me know if you'd like a chat (I'm a current Trustee).
VWT is looking for a highly motivated person with proven leadership qualities, experience in charity governance and strong existing networks in the environment sector to lead its Board of Trustees and work in partnership with the CEO. More info + to apply by 21 Nov 2025, visit vwt.org.uk/vacancies

With an increasing number of acoustic records of lesser horseshoe bats on the Isle of Man, VWT’s Ireland Mammal Programme Manager, Kate, joined the Manx Bat Group for site visits and delivered a sold-out talk.

Huge thanks to everyone who came along to learn more about this fascinating species!

Fantastic to see that Kerry's #lesserhorseshoe bats will have more places to roost in VWT's bat reserves.
Brilliant session with our amazing Kerry volunteers! Together we crafted ~30 roosting pots and boards for lesser horseshoe bats.

Terracotta pots + wool wood boards coated in lime mortar = perfect textured nooks for bats to cling to (modern materials are too smooth!)
