Told the friend I watched it with, “I didn’t know Mark Harris was going to show up.”
Just spent five and a half hours at the NYFF watching Rebecca Miller's Mr. Scorsese, a brilliant, definitive, revelatory portrait of the filmmaker that earned a roaring and well-deserved standing ovation. I truly didn't want it to end.* On Apple 10/17.

*Full disclosure: I am in it for 12 seconds.

Kind of funny that, in the span of four years, Hal Holbrook played a gay character in That Certain Summer then proceeded to play a character called “Deep Throat” in All the President’s Men.

Blah, I watched these movies for the first time last week:

Sergio Leone’s Dollars Trilogy
Akira Kurosawa’s Yojimbo
Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven

Here’s what I wrote about them:

Looking at Ryan Gosling and mumbling “he’s literally me” is gender affirming care for white dudes but a lot of you aren’t ready for that conversation

Been seeing that ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN quote circulating ("these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand"), but we're way past that now. Today, I wrote about BURN AFTER READING as the political film of our times: thereveal.substack.com/p/we-live-in...

I’ve tried getting into Lars von Trier’s work, and so far, Dogville is the only film of his I actually like. (It’s a masterpiece.)

He just comes off as a troll sometimes, and I guess that rubs me the wrong way. Like, why are you tryna be sincere and a troll?
