Did a ritual last night with a couple of other gender deviants 😇 We called in the deities and all the ancestors whose gender didn't fit their assigned gender or the gender roles of their time. We asked them to send strength to our siblings all over the world and to welcome those who had passed 🤍

Here is Alan Dundes' definition from 1984. I feel like the definition of a group with core elements in common regardless of whether everyone knows each other is a pretty good definition for 11H groups, but in folklore this can narrow down to a family or two people, which is more 3/4H and 7H.
Text from Alan Dundes' Defining Identity through Folklore from 1984. Includes some outdated language. Folk is not a synonym for peasant (as it was in the nineteenth century), nor is it limited to one stratum of society, for example, the vulgus in populo, or the lower class. Nor is it the illiterate in a literate society (cf. Hultkrantz 1960:126-129). The term "folk" can refer to any group of people whatsoever who share at least one common factor. It does not matter what the linking factor is—it could be a common occupation, language or religion—what is important is that a group formed for whatever reason will have some traditions which it calls its own. In theory, a group must consist of at least two persons, but generally most groups consist of many individuals. A member of the group may not know all other members, but he will probably know the common core of traditions belonging to the group, traditions which help the group to have a sense of group identity. If the group were composed of lumberjacks or railroadmen, then the folklore would be lumberjack or railroadmen folklore. If the group were composed of Jews or blacks, then the folklorist could seek Jewish or black folklore. Probably the smallest group would be an individual family, whose traditions often include sayings and such items as a family whistle (to call or locate a family member lost in a crowd). We can see that a folk is a much more flexible concept than ethnic group. A folk can be as small as a family and as large as a nation. An ethnic group would simply be one type of folk, but by no means the only type. (See "Who are the Folk?" in Dundes 1980:1-19.) The utilization of "folk" in place of "ethnic group" would considerably broaden the base of theoretical discussions of identity, beyond the unfortunately overly restrictive limits of ethnic group. For one thing, the modern definition of folk allows one to think of individuals belonging simultaneously to many different and distinct folk groups.

At the 50 year anniversary of the Women and Enby's National Strike yesterday, there was this invocation of Venus 😍

At least the latest example led me down a very interesting rabbit hole of Maori scholarship to make sure I was correct in my understanding of the term (and Bell is wrong)! The rest of the article is also him trying to "demistify" and "science" animistic thinking 🙄
Like the Latin word spiritus, the Maori word hau means both wind and spirit, and Tamati was trying to distinguish them. Quote: Let us suppose that you possess a certain article and that you give me this article. You give it to me without setting a price on it. We strike no bargain about it. Now, I give this article to a third person who, after a certain lapse of time, decides to give me some things as a payment in return....
