To all who wrote their representative to ask them to vote no on HB 1375 THANK YOU!! The bill is not moving forward!

Now on to the next call to action: SB 13 is a poorly written bill that can be weaponized to purge books in school libraries that censors deem "offensive" or without educational value.

If you need to visualize how the book restriction bill SB13 would damage Texas schools, here’s the just-released Free-Response Question 3 (Set 2) from this year’s AP Literature exam. And, next to it, here’s the same question with the books that would be banned from schools under the bill whited out.

The TX legislature is coming after books. HB 1375 lets anyone sue bookshops for damages if their minor accessed content they deemed “harmful.” It's a bad bill & will have a chilling effect on your 1st Amendment rights.

Tell your rep to vote NO on HB 1375. Find your rep: wrm.capitol.texas.gov/home

The Numbers Don’t Lie:
In just three years, instances of book bans have quadrupled.

Censorship is accelerating at an alarming rate, silencing diverse voices and limiting access to critical stories. We must act NOW to protect the freedom to read!

Pay attention Texas! SB13 would require challenged books be removed *while* they undergo reconsideration so we could see this exact scenario play out here, too.
A FL Media Specialist describes the limitation effect in a declaration:

“The Challenged Provisions completely ignore the value of books as a whole and prohibit [us] from applying our professional judgment and experience to select books on sensitive subjects for students at a variety of age levels.“
