If you were bright and poor, the state of California stuck you in a LCFF+ school, and you got great grades in class thinking you were doing fine and then you go to college and find out they didn’t teach you anything so you have to redo K-8 math

These students are from Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) schools, “California public schools in which more than 75 percent of the school's total enrollment is composed of students who are identified as either eligible for free or reduced-price meals, or English learners, or foster youth.”

They did not say this, but I will: we (as in every US state, not just California) are failing in K-12 education in very predictable ways. We have a tiered system where a third of kids go to bad schools and the rest to good schools. Forcing colleges to admit and remediate only hides the problem

Many of the students who need K-8 math remedial classes took calculus in high school! And their grades are no lower than the other kids who don’t need remediation!

Hard for me to see how you can persist in this without standardized testing

It is my 8-year-old’s third favorite book ever. (I’m not saying that to defend it—just saying it)

I have less of a problem with that since I take that to mean it’s just a lot of people

I think this is an area where I have an advantage having been on that side. I celebrated the Newt Gingrich shutdown. I thought all the fact that there was any “non-essential” government spending was giving the game away. I thought food stamp and other welfare spending should be $0. All sincere

Released in the US that is. It’s available worldwide otherwise

I will join them once the P2S actually gets released, which is apparently delayed because of the shutdown

This seems easy to defend! Status quo is no drilling there and the people living there don’t want it

I don’t know if it’s fake or not, but I’ve seen it circulated for decades

I’m hoping that this is them just trying to get people talking rather than an actual problem they are trying to address, but I don’t know

I’m not sure he’s the stupid one here!
