My sense is M is in a tragic bind here: fight Trumpism, and you get an angry federal govt opposing the NYC affordability agenda; work with Trump and risk the hug of death.

Yes, I would never suggest they’re naive. And Mamdani handled himself well. But, Trump’s predictable playbook—act charming toward those you can’t defeat—carries real risks to politicians who have built a significant part of their momentum on opposition to Trumpism (in addition to affordability).
