Nature loving, tree hugging liberal. Liberty and justice FOR ALL.
I rescue wild flowers from the dozers. I TNR feral cats. Bee keeper. Kayaking beach lover.
On a cold & foggy December day that matches my mood, my mind travels to my favorite place…drifting on the tide near Bogue Inlet. I can soak in the warmth & escape, for the moment, realities of current events while I savor the feel, sounds and even the taste of coastal Carolina.

Inspired by a weekend of Christmas light viewing….Time to focus on my tree! Elf bear is holding a handmade felt drum, made by my aunt over 40 years ago. Aunt Zelma passed 4 years ago at age 100. So the drum is a treasured keepsake.

I spent a chilly evening strolling through Wilmington, NC’s beautiful Airlie Gardens. The popular Christmas lights tour always sells out. My favorite scenes involve the Spanish moss laddened live oaks. Magical & enchanting effects!

I was taking picture of my lemons turning when Ocie appeared. I’d disturbed her hiding place. But I made it up to her with her favorite dinner. She gets Fancy Feast…And she’s finicky! Her heated beds are already turned on. She has a good life for a feral cat. I do wish she’d come inside.

The shrimp plants are blooming beautifully. With possible frosty nights approaching, the tropicals will soon need to come indoors. They’ve grown so much over the Summer, it’s going to be a challenge.

When you’ve watched AJ Bondi’s performance before a Senate committee, some pink daisy mums help reset the mind.

While cutting seed pods off a tropical milkweed that I don’t want to return next year, I came across this green tree frog… with a racing stripe! He was well camouflaged until I disturbed him. Glad I missed him with the clippers! He’s helping to control the aphid population.

This was my Dad in occupied Germany, 1946. They didn’t have fresh meat in their rations so, being a good hunter from growing up in rural NC, he occasionally provided a wild rabbit or other game for their meals.
I guess he was ANTIFA? I know he was anti-fascist.

A beautiful morning to kayak in the marshes and inlet. Hammocks Beach SP can be seen in the distance. NC has a beautiful coastline.

Spotted a sharks tooth in the water’s edge near Bogue Inlet, NC.

I believe I’ve seen two types of egrets today: a Great Egret in the marsh at Cedar Point Tidelands Trail and a pair of young Snowy Egrets near the surf on Hammocks Beach SP. The Snowys seemed small but had the signature bright yellow feet.

This doe is bold. She wants some corn. She’s training her little ones where to come for an easy meal.

Mr. Eastern Box Turtle was covering some ground this morning until I tried to get a closer shot. He has more yellow markings than on any I’ve seen before. I left so he could continue on his mission.

Little Yellow butterflies visiting today… yes, they are appropriately named!

Busy day in the garden. Eastern tiger swallowtail.

I’m happy the monarchs are interested in the native milkweeds. I hope there will soon be “ cats” munching away.

Finally had a few monarchs show up today. The variety of milkweeds I’ve planted seemed to pay off.

Eastern Tiger Swallowtail. One of many today, though it was difficult to get a clear shot. This one fluttered non-stop!

Ocie, the resident feral cat, was caught having a fresh drink of water. It’s been so hot, I have to refill the shallow bird baths 2x daily as the birds splash or the water evaporates. Ocie likes to sample each bath she can reach.
