Seattle via MS and NYC. Attorney posting about politics and repro rights. Supported by a purralegal.
Something I hadn’t thought about in years but came up today: why was a student marrying the youth pastor a common occurrence in 2000s Jackson churches. Like how was that ever ok y’all.

Not me looking up a California case for research today and it involves the Jackson firm of a judge my bestie has beef with. The Mississippi legal world is so small.

Had a rough day but the remedy is a good cry, my Roosevelt Hotel robe after an everything shower, delivery pad Thai, and texting my girlfriends about all the latest Jackson gossip as to why the JSU president quit today.

Guest: We just need some money to respond to the disaster.
Noem: Well, if only we had some way to give the money directly to the state, FEMA has clearly failed. We're gonna shut it down because it can't respond.
Michael Guest voted last week against Bennie Thompson's amendment to stop Trump from closing FEMA—today, Guest asked Kristi Noem to speed up FEMA's response to tornadoes two months ago, but Noem describes FEMA's failure to respond to Guest's constituents as a reason to phase FEMA out.

I hope Mississippi Christian University remembers to teach its law students something about the separation of church and state.

I’ve cried on the NYC subway - who hasn’t - but everyone on Seattle public transit looks so mad today. It’s a beautiful day. What gives?

I miss NYC. I think a bodega cat and a bacon egg and cheese would heal me.

Last year a MS reporter called me and asked me to take down a tweet about someone opening a law firm on the back of their deceased, racist dad. Today their progressive relative posted an old campaign ad where said father is pictured with segregationist Eastland & is described as an Eastland dem. (1)

My mom & a group of engaged citizens tried to politely show up to Roger Wicker’s Jxn office today to deliver a letter asking for a town hall. His state director, Ryan Annison, told them to go away because “30 million people voted for this.” Apparently now we can’t even give our elected reps letters.

Got accepted to the Washington bar! It appears that, unlike Mississippi, all of the other states consider policy counsel work to be legal work.

Screaming. I asked Chat GPT to describe an average woman in her thirties from Jackson. Not the boutiques!

It’s ok that we are actively just wishing bad things on these people now, right?

Didn’t he defend child labor at one point? I don’t see him leaving.

Happy for Wisconsin but I wish Mississippi could have judges who didn’t have to shy away from being called liberal at the risk of losing their seat.

My biggest regret since I moved here is getting convinced by a Seattle “friend” to delete my finsta because I needed to move on from Jackson. PNW gossip simply doesn’t hit the same, y’all.

As a former human trafficking prosecutor, it will never not be bizarre to me how many local charities and bar organizations in Mississippi are obsessed with human trafficking but Lynn Fitch doesn’t seem to really prosecute human traffickers. Also, this graphic design was a choice. 😬

I really like my job but my dream is to own a wine bar/bookstore so I can read books all day.

He was just pictured at a fundraiser with Hegseth in Tupelo and my nemesis Lynn Fitch. I’m sure he’s super concerned.
After Trump officials texted war plans to a group chat that included a journalist, U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker said he was "very concerned" and that his Armed Services Committee would “be looking into it on a bipartisan basis."

I dreamed last night that I campaigned to change the name of the MS Supreme Court as the last living Gartin. I thought my speech was pretty effective honestly.

This is absolutely insane.
Among other things, Paul Weiss agreed to dedicate $40 million in pro bono legal services to “support the administration’s initiatives.”

I have officially become that boomer attorney who throws her hands up at Word formatting and just tells my paralegal “please fix.”

Good.
BREAKING: Federal judge blocks Elon Musk, Amy Gleason, and DOGE employees from access to Social Security Administration systems containing personally identifiable information, orders them also to delete any previously obtained non-anonymized SSA information.

My Bluesky account doesn’t show up in search results so does this mean I can post about dating in Seattle without the men finding out? 🧐 Chronicling my Southern dating life was entertaining while it lasted in Jackson.

Had a super boring date last Friday BUT I will be going back to the bar because the bartender is from Alabama, made delicious drinks, and was eager to tell me stories about selling drugs to Alabama frat boys.

I don’t know why but Folklore and Evermore are the only Taylor Swift albums to which I can reliably do legal research and writing.
