As @aspiringpeasant.com always tells us, beavers are infrastructure 🦫
Last month, beavers built several dams almost overnight in an area of the Czech Republic where the local authorities had been discussing a dam project for seven years. Having done so ‘without any project documentation and for free’, the beavers saved them about £1 million.

No internet, no TV, no landline this morning.

But we do have 2” of fresh snow for a 3” base.

29 degrees in East Woodinville. My snow shovel is super excited for its morning workout. ❄️

I’ve started standing about two rows deep in the classroom to lecture and I find it makes people who are texting really uncomfortable. I’m going to keep doing it.

More snow in Houston and New Orleans this month than the Sierra Nevada. 🤷‍♂️
This is certainly a day to save radar loops and weather observations from the Deep South - we're witnessing an incredibly rare historic event right now.

Snowstorms like this don't come often at all - in fact, only a few since the late 1800s.

Big snowstorms, like the astonishing & historic one today along the Gulf Coast today, are not just a function of cold air: they also require ample moisture and upward motion in the atmosphere. Very warm oceans contribute both, and when a rare Arctic airmass comes along...poof!
Snow has ended. Just under 10” near Palmer Park in New Orleans. Dad doing the official snow measurement in his cargo shorts😂😂. #LAwx
