289. In the Miso Soup 💙📚

really good exploration of the loneliness of humanity and the ways we cope with it, whether by destroying ourselves, each other, or both. ryu murakami just gets it. it's a crime against humanity he's not the more internationally recognized murakami author

288. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? 💙📚

never had a chance of being half as iconic as the movie but it was interesting to see where it all began and what things were changed. animals being mostly extinct and being a symbol of the old natural world in contrast to modern people, most notably

287. Predator: Badlands 📽️

for better and for worse, easily one of the most video gamey movies i've ever seen. screenplay is definitely functional and the action is serviceable but i'm not sure i'll really remember this tomorrow.

286. Monogatari Series: Second Season

bigger and even better than the first season. the monogatari series cements itself as one of the very best light novel series and among the most emotionally complex and intelligent works in the anime sphere at large. tsubasa hanekawa is literally me.

285. Colorful Stage! A Miku Who Can't Sing 📽️

watched this barely cognizant of what project sekai even is and was quite overwhelmed. normally i'd be harsher on this but i was kind of depressed and in need of artistic inspiration at the time so this hit the exact spots i needed in the moment

284. The Shining 📽️

quite a well-made movie, though slow burn horrors have never been my thing. more interesting to analyze than to really sit down and watch imo. the cycle of abuse, domestic abuse, so much to sink one's teeth into. shelley duvall you are a queen and have done nothing wrong.

283. Nocturnal 📽️

another movie made purely for airplanes. a movie with a deep identity crisis, at once trying to be a revenge thriller, another a mystery about a real murder replicating a book plot, another a character drama about domestic abuse. it does not do any of those things well
November 11, 2025 at 5:49 AM
282. Speed 📽️

a genuine workmanlike action movie that sells you purely on its craft that will make you truly invested in it despite the implausible premise and corny acting. thirty years later and the stuff they pull in this movie still utterly mogs most other blockbusters today. shit rules
November 11, 2025 at 5:17 AM
281. Rush Hour 📽️

you genuinely could not make this movie today. they'd shoot you dead before you could say "asian leading man." a sort of "chud woke" movie that you're not really allowed to make anymore in a post-trump world. but it's genuinely funny, what can i say!

280. Crosspoint 📽️

a movie barely fit for airplane viewing, which i did do. a struggling filipino actor moves to japan and teams up with a dude to hunt down a serial killer for the bounty. the premise and novelty is much more interesting than the actual movie. not much going on here.

279. House and Powers of X

a complete revelation. the x-men at their greatest in 20 years, and yet their most unsettling. a new hope and an ill omen. i'm mad i'm only just starting this era after it's already over. i've hardly read a comic so openly confident in its own premise and what's to come.

278. A Righteous Thirst for Vengeance

a pretty breezy and enjoyable read, if not also a little too short for its own good with a pretty abrupt ending, especially with the spaced out pacing. not sure why benedict wong is the protag but i'll take it. can't really afford to be picky about these things
November 11, 2025 at 3:03 AM
277. 20th Century Men

really thematically dense comic, almost to its detriment given its short 6 issue run. unpacks some really cool stuff like the inherent fascism of the "super man" and how technology can only exacerbate existing conflicts, but could really use more time to get into all that
