Yeah I feel like it was the most Daimler-Chrysler era car outside of the Chrysler 300/Dodge Charger and Crossfire of around that era.

Mechanically, absolutely the R171 wasn't filled to the brim with that messy and dodgy tech like the W220 or W221.

Yeah he's been a die hard Merc guy for 30 yrs.

Oh yeah the interior is so cheap that my dad had to have it reupholstered because everything was cracking.

Also 100% black suits it very well. His is also black & yeah that engine just runs and runs. It's actually outlived 2 of his S classes, a W221, and now a W222.

I'd throw in the R171 SLK 55 AMG in there as well. It has the M113 AMG V8 without the supercharger making it pretty reliable and pretty fun, provided you can fit inside of it.

My pops has had one for the last 8 or so years and it has never broken down on him despite pushing 175k miles now.
