Sewing, cats, life in Seattle.
In the Upper Room was the first ballet I saw at PNB and it blew me away. I had no idea ballet could be like that. 18 years later I finally got to see it again, and it was just as magical. Half 80s aerobicizing madness, half pure joy. I hope they don’t wait as long to bring it back next time.

When your nephew requests a Freddie Mercury jacket for his Halloween costume, what else is a crafty aunt supposed to do but get to work?

Finally! It’s hot cocoa, candles, and curling up on the couch with my cat and a book season.

Never thought there’d actually be a time these shirts fit all 3 kids at the same time!

I know not understanding the rules of cricket is a trope, but I’m watching a Seattle Orcas game and there are so many numbers on the screen, yet I have no idea if we’re winning or losing.

Damn I love outdoor pizza season.

200g of dough, crushed tomatoes with some salt, garlic and oregano. Then dollops of burrata filling, basil and olive oil added after the bake. I will live on this all summer.

Actual conversation at work today with someone I used to respect:
Me: …so then I affinitized the responses into themes
Them: Ooh, did you use Copilot??
Me: *stares*
Me: No. I used my brain.

It’s been a shit week, so I’m having a one-woman Friday afternoon dance party in my house. And you know what? It’s working!

My mom doesn’t communicate verbally anymore due to advanced dementia. But today she managed to get across very clearly to the health aide that despite being Swiss, she had no interest in listening to yodeling music. 🤣

Today is my parents’ 55th wedding anniversary and also the 4th anniversary of mom’s dementia diagnosis. It feels much longer. The past 4 months feel like 4 years alone.

It’s been a rough couple of weeks, and Director’s Choice at PNB this afternoon was beautiful and exactly what I needed. I get that it’s the Swan Lakes that fill the seats, but I love the contemporary, non-story ballets so much.

Quiet Sunday morning; tea and milk in my handmade set.

It took several tries to successfully make the creamer. I ran out of time before I could make a perfectly fitting sugar bowl lid, but that gives me a reason to come back to pottery again in the future.

My dad just sent me this photo of his class celebrating Easter in Tours, France, 1939. (Dad is the 1st bunny on the left in the front row). My thought process:
- Aw, cute!
- Bet he hated wearing that.
- Wonder if the kids dressed as chickens were jealous of the bunnies.
- Wait, are those AXES?

It took over a year, but I made a quilt for a wall hanging in my basement room! I really love the way this one turned out.

I can’t stop thinking about “dates” being in quotes. Who were they thinking these young MIT students would bring to the soda bar?
It feels tacky to discuss the cost of the building. But maybe that’s a thing you can talk about with your “date.”

Today in things I can’t believe my dad has held onto, but also it’s long enough ago that it’s sort of interesting again: the course catalog from his freshman year at MIT 72 years ago.

It’s definitely giving Aunt Ada Doom seeing something nasty in the woodshed.

Or maybe he did ride it. 20 years ago. And saw something *scary.* He never left the safety of his car again.

Why do I think he’s never ridden public transportation before.
Sean Duffy: "The truth is, transit across America is dangerous. And these liberals -- liberal mayors -- they want everybody out of cars and into trains but they made the trains unsafe so nobody really wants to ride them ... even big men don't want to ride the subway at those times of night."

Is it even a Stylemaker retreat if I’m not making something out of strawberry fabric? 🍓

Off to the sewing retreat I go!!

Really delighted, proud, and excited to see the first woman sworn in as King County Executive. Bravo Exec Braddock!
April 1, 2025 at 10:45 PM
Funny typo aside, I’m so happy to see this motion appointing Shannon Braddock as King County Exec. She’s amazing and past time we had a woman in that role.
I knew there was sorcery involved!!

Otto says he’s sorry, he can’t be bothered by a storm right now. He’s found a duvet left on the ground.

Last day in the studio for my 3rd era of pottery. I know there’ll be a 4th era one day, but I’m feeling a little sad (and of course now I have tons of ideas for things I want to try).
