I witnessed someone walk out of Bunny’s today after learning they did not serve chicken eggs in the breakfast wrap. Vegan business owners tell me it is sadly common, especially among men, to fear plant proteins. My first time seeing it happen.

Delicious orange chocolate latte from Bunny’s Kitchen in Esquimalt. I also got a giant Biscoff bonanza square because who can resist those? It is pretzel, marshmallow, chocolate and Biscoff cookie butter aka speculoos also mixed into a sweet and salty heavenly square.

I recently learned Plantitude in #Ladysmith is closing at the end of December and me and the partner decided to forego our weekend chores and drive up there for a late brunch linner.

Glad to learn the new biz taking over the space will keep some of the vegan menu items and baked treats.

Halibut House in the Saanich Core makes this tofu and veggie black bean stir-fry on rice for a fresh lunch option Tuesday-Sunday.

Their dinner menu is vegan-friendly and they will even make some off-menu favourites like mapo tofu. Just ask!

Vegan tacos on the Sunshine Coast last month. This were from a spot called Aquí Es Mexico in a tiny strip mall in Madeira Park. Lacking protein and smaller portions but 10/10 on flavour.

Community Food Support is desperately seeking more Back-End Volunteers to keep the program alive.

We deliver 80+ free food hampers to recipients in #YYJ each week from the Quadra Village Community Centre gym, but much takes place behind the scenes beforehand to make that possible.

Back-End Roles include: * Meeting coordinators * Finance team * Volunteer Coordinators * Time-Sensitive Volunteer Coordinators * Social Media team * Fundraising team Back-End Volunteer Roles with Community Food Support Community Food Support delivers 80+ food hampers to families across Lekwungen territory for free every week. This work cannot be done without the work of our incredible back-end volunteers! Many of our back-end volunteers are over capacity and we need to onboard new volunteers to be able to continue the food delivery program. If you support our mission or have been considering volunteering, now is the time to help us out! What does being a Back-End volunteer involve? There are many different roles. Each role has multiple people on a team so that no one person is taking on all the work, and so folks can take breaks. These roles are independently completed on your own time, usually online with Slack and email. Back-end volunteers attend two organizing meetings online per month (Monday evenings), if they are available, or read the minutes and report back in Slack. One of my favourite things about living in Cali was that my birthday was never on Thanksgiving weekend and I didn’t have to smell dead bird flesh as part of a hybrid celebration. Thanksgiving is one of those pivotal holidays in many people’s journey to ethical veganism.

There’s also Be Love, which is a completely gluten-free, all-vegetarian restaurant with a slightly nicer but still casual sit down vibe. Almost everything is also vegan except for some honey in a few things.

And my favourite for vegan cafe and bakery is Bunny’s Kitchen in Esquimalt. See below:

I love no longer living in CA and knowing what ‘current situation’ you’re referring to this time.

You’re going to want to drive the western coast to Botanical Beach (~2hrs from YYJ) and visit the tide pools at low tide. If you feel adventurous and have 4x4 you could go to see Big Lonely Doug too.
