that's a poem in the making

Teach it. I first read the book because a teacher assigned it to me & it's so much better than any of the movies. The themes are as relevant as ever.

side note: when I was little, I thought the phrase was "making ends meat" & pictured 2 butchers stretching out 2 pieces of meat until they met. Still applies to crappy day jobs.

I get so cranky about submission fees, because so many of us have to keep our crappy day jobs just to barely make ends meet. Poetry is my heart, but being paid in "exposure" doesn't pay the bills let alone submission fees.

It wasn't like that here in the beginning. I think people who stayed on X after it became the bad place got so used to being outraged all the time they didn't know how to stop when they finally came here. So they approach typos w/ the same rage as they did Nazis.

I know, but they don't accept electronic copies. They require print versions. Most poets on small presses don't get many free review copies (usually only 5-20 total) or advances on royalties at all. So it's an out of pocket expense to buy more copies & pay postage for to submit to even one prize.

Many presses are making their reading periods accessible by doing away with mandatory fees.

Prizes likewise need to consider their financial accessibility. Presses are not the same weights—Graywolf and River River shouldn’t pay the same entry fee for a title.

It makes no sense.
