Why is it critical to establish community immunity through vaccination of every eligible child? To protect the vulnerable —->https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2025/09/12/los-angeles-measles-complication-vaccination-sspe/
L.A. County child dies of rare measles complication years after infection
The child contracted measles before being old enough to vaccinate, officials said — adding that the case highlights the importance of community immunity.

#5 Dear FL, Without vaccine mandates your communities will lose immunity. Naïve (unvaccinated) children will suffer, miss school, incur medical expenses. Parents will miss work to care for sick kids. The immense cost-effectiveness of vaccines will be lost. Florida: don’t be naïve, be protected.

#4 Dear FL, Imagine: Without vaccine mandates, vacationers and retirees will decide to stop visiting and retiring in contagious Florida. Your economic metrics will fall as your infectious disease rates rise. Florida: please don’t put naïve kids and the vulnerable at risk. Be vaccine-experienced.

#3 Dear FL, Without vaccine mandates and herd immunity, retirees in FL, with aging immune systems, will be at increased risk for disease and death from surging vaccine-preventable diseases. Our states’ older adults will no longer want to retire in dangerous FL. Don't be naive. Love, NY, NJ & CT

#2 Dear FL, Without vaccine mandates, your vaccination rates will fall below the herd immunity thresholds for diseases. For example, measles is so highly contagious that 95% of people must be vaccinated to achieve herd immunity. FL vacations will become dangerous for us. Love, GA, AL, TN, LA, TX, NY

Dear Florida,
Please do not do this.
Do not be naïve.
There are good reasons we vaccinate children.
Think of this:
We would not send a group of new and untrained firefighters to battle against a blaze.
Why would we send our children out into the world with untrained (naïve) immune systems?

The #mpox Emergency Committee met yesterday and advised me that in its view, the situation no longer represents an international health emergency. I have accepted that advice.

Lifting the emergency declaration does not mean the threat is over, nor that our response will stop.

I really hope that FLORIDA does not do this. In the prevaccination era 1% of children would die of what are now vaccine-preventable diseases. In other words, 40,000 US children saved PER YEAR out of 4M birth cohort.
