An updated version of the VAG Dendrochronology Database has just been published. The database contains tree-ring dates for over 4900 buildings in the UK - have a browse at doi.org/10.5284/1132....

The VAG Wealden Houses database has just been updated - check it out at doi.org/10.5284/1011... (where you can also find a definition of a Wealden House). The photo shows an example in Goodramgate, York.

We've reached the end of a wonderful spring conference in Wiltshire and to finish with here's the oldest crown post in the country, in the Medieval Hall, Salisbury Cathedral Close. The roof has been tree-ring dated to 1249-50. #vagspringconf

The delightful early C17 open staircase which was part of the Plume of Feathers inn, Salisbury (now in the Cross Keys Mall). It must have led to the galleries and chambers of the former inn. #vagspringconf

9 Queen Street, Salisbury. A timber-framed house tree-ring dated to 1310. Much discussion about the pegs in the extraordinary cross frame which presumably secured the infill material - but what was it? Currently the Cotswold shop. #vagspringconf

Hall of John Halle, Salisbury. A high quality merchant's courtyard house of mid to late C15. Restored by Pugin 1834. Now forms the foyer to the Odeon cinema! #vagspringconf

Manor Farm Barn, Kingston Deverill, A 7 bay barn tree-ring dated to 1407-10. Truss construction is mixed, perhaps to suit different agricultural operations. Base crucks provide a spacious working area in centre of barn. Fragments of thatch survive under tin roof. #vagspringconf

Old Farmhouse, Ugford. A four-bay house with cross passage, with much debate as to whether the trusses were crucks or not! Good variety of building materials. #vagspringconf
