Heavy rail mass transit is good for moving a ton of people over large distances. This isn't that. Even with the new 6k residents, Red Hook will never have such a high population that it needs a subway like this. Maybe if a new line extended deeper into Brooklyn. But there is not enough demand ATM.

For 50 years, planners tried to figure out how to build a subway along Horace Harding Blvd. Robert Moses beat them to it with a highway. Follow the twists and turns, and see what might still be possible.

As an aside, I've seen many people suggest that this large median down Hillside Ave was left for an underground train yard. These plans prove that was not the case. In fact, this area was left for an unbuilt roadway underpass. You can see similar medians left in other roads through Queens.

There were plans on the books to extend the IND (F train) out to Springfield Blvd. This could be a *relatively cheap* cut-and-cover project today. Hell, pair it with a new stormwater sewer down the notorious corridor and get two for one!
