2025 Book #9. Audiobook version, narrated by Dominic Hoffman. Characters with depth and wit in a rich tapestry of difficult lives in a NYC borough housing project in the late 60s. The narrator enlivens the characters’ distinct voices so well.

2025 Book #8. Last Night at the Telegraph Club, Malinda Lo. In 1950s San Francisco, Chinese-American girl discovers being queer during McCarthyism. Sweet and tense. It is not my story but it resonates so strongly.

Friday Bread Report: Not bread! Scottish oat cakes to pair with sharp cheddar. Some got a bit *toasted* (🔥) but tasted good nonetheless.

2025 Book #7. The MANIAC by Benjamín Labatut. Eerie. Fictional recollections (based on facts) on the life of Johnny von Neumann by his family, friends, and colleagues. Von Neumann is known to most as the architect of modern Game Theory; that’s what I knew.

Friday Bread Report: Rye Porridge-style loaf. Actually…The Blob That Almost Swallowed Bend. Maybe not quite that but good to have had it in a roasting pan. Better rise. 7 min. score method is not working well.

2025 Book #6: _The Little Book of Race and Restorative Justice_ by Fania E. Davis. Another timely topic that pushes against the headwinds of our circumstances. This book came from another member of the _Belonging Without Othering_ book group a few weeks ago.

2025 Book #3. _Belonging Without Othering_ john a. powell & Stephen Menendian. This was tough because it is SO overshadowed by the current pathologies. It seems such an impossibly high calling. This title was COCC‘s „Season of Non-violence“ community read.

I need to face my trepidation re: forming the boule. Smells good, but flat like a pancake…😶

Soda Bread. Internet assures me dough is raggedy and knobbly finish. Tasted great with a creamy blue cheese!

2025 Book #2. Australian philosopher-scuba diver ponders Life—bacteria to bodies to culture to consciousness—and our responsibility in the face of where human achievement and hubris has brought us. Philosophical so I am certain there is a lot I barely got.

Belated Friday night bread bake: rye cold-ferment. Pretty good, the rye grains could have had a longer cook to be a bit softer.
