Since the inception of Arcane, Evening has been a champion for black women. Whether it was within the creative spaces of Riot, or on Twitter, they have never hesitated to speak up for the Medardas and black women alike. Evening, you have placed so much care into Mel and Ambessa, so clearly evidenced by their thoughtful creation. You have gone above and beyond to capture the unique features, hair textures that black women bear, and your care resulted in characters who are distinct and authentic. As a project proudly involving black women in its creation and in participation, seeing Mel and Ambessa so intricately rendered on screen was deeply moving and impactful for us. It's not often we see what we saw in Arcane: black women-dark skinned black women- represented within media, as the beautiful, intelligent, and empathetic individuals we are. Watching the characters you helped to create was a very special, empowering experience-one we hold dear to this day, and it was your characters that played an integral part in allowing us to connect with Arcane on a much deeper level. Thank you for helping create characters that so many black women can see themselves in. Thank you for seeing us and representing us with a care that few others have. Have a wonderful birthday! The excerpt from the fic is the following: Cassandra stared at the infant a moment, wondering what to do. Caitlyn stopped crying as she hiccupped, as if out of breath, and her tear-filled eyes spotted her. She whimpered, arms outstretched, but when her mother did nothing, she started crying again. Cassandra looked at the door, expecting her husband to swoop in. He’d convinced her to not get a wet nurse, but honestly, Cassandra regretted it. She’d had a wet nurse when she was an infant, and she’d turned out fine. Caitlyn’s cries became more insistent. Though she sighed, Cassandra picked her daughter up. She’s so brilliantly written and her relationship to the past is probably my favourite part of that writing (who doesn’t love a bit of mommy issues!), it’s amazing how well-woven her past always is to her actions. I'm AL, I've been a fan of arcane for the last 3, almost 4 years, and this is my first time joining a zine! I've always had a bit of a soft spot for skyvik, but it definitely became a favorite of mine after season 2! Very excited to see this all come together! The background of the graphic features a blueprint. Over the blueprint there's some elements: a torn paper sheet with the name of the contributor, a grid sheet behind the profile picture of the contributor and a lens over it. Contributor sample of AL: a drawing of Sky and Viktor in parallel, both in their astral forms, looking at each other; there's some stars in the galaxy behind them. Stella Aurea is a SFW, for-charity fanzine that seeks to celebrate the life and legacy of Runeterra's brightest star, Mel Medarda! We're showing off previews from our second check-in!
