@rhigarthjones.bsky.social ordered my copy from Arnold Busch. They had a couple of copies available. I got to hold it, but had to hand it back until Thursday :-)

Wrote a little bit of something about how humans look to the past for epic stories to take them forward, and how those stories are messier and more complex than we often expect.

@marthawells.com congratulations on the Murderbot series on Apple. The casting is excellent, Alexander as SecUnit is just fantastic. Already on my second rewatch.

Listening to The Ruck podcast about the Lions tour, and one of the Times journos expressed surprise that the squad isn't as Irish dominated as "some" had expected. Pretty sure him and the other Times journos are the "some" he's referring to.

France U-20s having a melt down of Chernobyl proportions. 3 players yellow carded in 5 minutes. They've been massively the better team, but damn they're fragile.

To American peeps, I gather most people here think the Trump Zelensky exchange is a bad thing, but how is it playing with his base? Any idea?

Why should you fight injustice, if it affects only others? Why should you defend rights that don't affect you? Because it isn't justice if you only care when it applies to you. Because rights apply to all, or nobody at all. Because you are a true warrior, and honor calls for it.

A polite bigot is a bigot nonetheless. A true warrior knows that courteous words do not dilute the poison, but only serve to conceal it until it has spread. Civility in the service of hate deserves no polite response.

In the 6th century, a sailor threw a bottle at a whale off the coast of Constantinople.
In response, the whale spent the next 50 years sinking so many ships off the Byzantine coast it was named Porphyrios after the giant who attacked Olympus & the Emperor unsuccessfully dedicated his reign against it

@scalzi.com, I recommended "Old Man's War" series to my wife, she loved it. Just finished "the Last Emperox" series myself, thought it was excellent. Kiva Lagos is one of my favourite characters, she must have been a blast to write.

@greenleejw.bsky.social what is the likelihood of a Conger eel 30 km inland in a tidal river? Just remembering seeing a guy walking up town with a 6 foot long eel over his shoulder, thick as his arm. He'd caught it in his poaching net.
