Before it‘s melting
The flower of a smoketree which resembles a fluff ball. It’s covered in snow. Bright yellow ginkgo leaves. Some snow in between. Yellow oval shaped leaves in the snow. Some are covered with a dust of snow. It looks like icing sugar. Hydrangeas. They are pinkish/brown. The leaves are yellow and the stems are covered in ice.

The smoke tree hasn’t lost its leaves yet. All of today’s snow is weighing heavily on the branches. It looks like a pretty arch in front of the porch but I hope that the tree won’t snap.

When I make an amazing pot of homemade soup, the reaction my labor receives is often, "Mmmm, that's good. For soup." But not this soup, my friends, not this soup. The aroma alone is enough to win over doubters, and the Thai inspired flavors are the getaway you're all craving in colder months. cM MAKES Servings PREP TIME Minutes TOTAL TIME Winutes VEGETARIAN, MAKE AHEAD 1 Tbsp (15 ml) 2 cloves 1 Tbsp (15 ml) 1 Tbsp (15 ml) ½/2 tsp (2 ml) ½/2 tsp (2 ml) ⅓/ cup (75 ml) 4 cups (i L) 3 cups (750 ml) 1 can (14 oz/400 ml) 2 cups (500 ml) big handful of juice of ½/ pinch of olive oil onion, diced large carrots, diced garlic, minced minced fresh ginger curry powder ground cinnamon ground cumin tomato paste vegetable stock water coconut milk red lentils fresh spinach, sliced into ribbons lemon salt and pepper GET AHEAD Save 5 minutes by prepping your vegetables (except the spinach) in advance. 1 In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the onions and carrots and cook, stirring occasionally, until they just begin to soften, 3 to 5 minutes. Add the garlic, ginger, curry powder, cinnamon and cumin. Give everything a good stir and cook for another 3 minutes. Then add the tomato paste and stir again. Stir in the stock, water, coconut milk and lentils. Simmer-do not boil-for about 25 minutes, or until the lentils are tender. Throw in the spinach and stir it around until it just wilts. Add the lemon juice and season with salt and

In the distance a very small waterfall (you can barely see it). Yellow and orange leaves on trees that form a hole to peek through. A trail that is lined with trees on both sides. The trees have yellow and green leaves. There are colorful leaves on the trail and a tunnel in the distance. A flat roofed green building with a red brick chimney (from the bottom to the top of the building). The side of the house has two black doors and a black fire escape staircase. The building is surrounded by gras and has some sort of sunroom in the back. Cloudy skies. Rock formation to the left side of the trail. Trees in front of it and colorful leaves on the ground.
