Holobiont on display at the @theguardian.com in a top 10 list for #invertebrate of '25. Beautiful imagery here!

Heat exposure on Western Australian coral reefs is literally off the charts.

24 Degree Heating Weeks now at Ningaloo - the highest ever recorded.

6-8 DHW is lethal for most branching corals.

>20 is catastrophic.

By attacking science:

We are less safe because science informs national security and medical care.

We are less prosperous because science drives innovation and economic benefit.

We are less free because science and democracy depend on the liberty to ask questions, and seek and share knowledge.

🧪 just published!

we discovered the biggest sponges on coral reefs soak up tons of strange metabolites produced by cyanobacterial mats, and consider the ecological implications 🪸

and with that, my dissertation is published within 2 years!✨

I hope federally funded scientists are preparing for large scale, bad faith attacks by Musk and his troll army.

It’s pretty clear the DOGE operation is going to take snippets of grant proposals and papers, present them out of context, and direct weaponized harassment of individual people.

Symbiodiniaceae algal symbionts of Pocillopora damicornis larvae provide more carbon to their coral host under elevated levels of acidification and temperature - Communications Biology
Acidification and warming enhance the productivity and nutrient assimilation of Pocillopora damicornis coral larvae, without destabilizing its symbiosis with intracellular algae.
