I think the reason they didn't is because that wasn't the reason they caved, sadly. I fully expect it to come out that some lobbying group or another caused it. The kayfabe made it super apparent.
Which sucks, because it IS justifiable, and pretty close to their reasoning from March.

This is not believable that they actually didn't want to vote yes until either of them calls for Schumer to step aside.
