I love being outdoors! I will post about my hikes and travels. I used to write a travel baking blog while living full time in a van, so maybe a cake post occasionally!

Your occasional reminder that eels are the most smuggled animal on earth; there's a $4-$5 billion per year black market trade in eels.

Comma butterfly, open and closed wings, caterpillar and chrysalis. Common throughout the UK during most of the summer months. #butterflies

Imagine looking at a bird this gorgeous and calling it a “rat with wings”

Did you know? ... Looking like a beautiful Fabergé egg, the volume of the Scotch Argus egg relative to its wingspan is 3.1% and is the largest ratio of all of the British and Irish butterflies (the smallest ratio belongs to the Meadow Brown, which is just 0.31%).

The rhinos we have and the ones we lost.

In the late Pleistocene, about two thirds of the worlds terrestrial megafauna went extinct. Rhinos fared better than average, but still, all the temperate and cold climate species are gone. Those that remain are endangered and in dire need of protection.

Having the gwenders is the bane of my life 😭
My absolute love of winter is a odds with my (currently) chilblained toes.
Word of the Day is ‘gwenders’, from old Cornish dialect: a disagreeable tingling in the extremities (or no sensation at all) due to extreme cold.

I need to sell my demountable camper. Is Ebay really the best place to do that? Been on a few caravan forums and they seemed to point to Ebay. I've only really sold shoes and clothes on there before!

Love this. ‘Queue’ is from the French word with the same spelling (but pronounced as ‘kuh’) meaning an animal’s long tail.

In the 18th and 19th centuries it also referred to a pigtail and was sometimes spelled as ‘cue’, which gave us the name of the long thin rod used in snooker.
the “ueue” in “queue” is really just there as an example

In autumn, there's a particular spot I go in Tentsmuir forest looking for Amethyst Deceivers. They peep through the fallen leaves and pine needles. I found these ones a couple of weeks ago.

I visited the V&A Dundee yesterday to see the Kimono exhibition (which was great!) but it was the Dundee Tapestry that really fascinated me. 35 panels, hand-stitched by local volunteers. Absolutely loved this one, celebrating Dundee's gaming heritage, with the ZX Spectrum computer in the centre🖥️

After 22 years of living in Scotland, I am moving south again to start a new chapter of my life. It's exciting but I never thought I would leave tbh! Going to miss these sunny sea views, and the macaroni pies!
