I feared it would be bad, but to see the actual numbers is nauseating
This is far worse than anyone expected.

Trump's HUD plan would cut *two-thirds* of permanent housing and push as many as 170,000 formerly homeless people back onto the street—redirecting funds to work mandates, forced treatment, and encampment sweeps.

All as mass internment camps are being built.

As we continue to see shifts away from proven solutions like housing + services, University of Pennsylvania Professor Dennis Culhane reminds us:

➡️ "We did that and it failed. It’s the whole reason Housing First came about."
Giving homeless people stable housing was federal policy for decades. Trump is ending it | CNN Business
Trump is dismantling Housing First programs to reduce homelessness. But advocates say that could have dire consequences for people who are struggling and unhoused.

We all want our neighbors to live safely indoors, but forcing people from place to place without housing creates more problems than it solves.

There are better ways to navigate urgent encampment issues while advancing long-term solutions to homelessness.

Finally! Whether it gets traction remains to be seen but man it’d be nice to see some actual compassionate progress
A year since #JohnsonVGrantsPass, 320+ bills that make it a crime to be homeless have been introduced. Every single one is cruel, wasteful, and makes homelessness worse.

Thursday, the #HousingNotHandcuffs Act will be introduced to help fight back. @aclu.org

This is a terrifying yet completely unsurprising budget proposal. The #homeless in America have suffered so much, and now this administration with no empathy. Inhuman.
Amid a spiraling homelessness crisis, this administration isn't just slashing aid. It's proudly axing a program that helped cities undo racist housing policy and protect people from displacement.

This isn't about saving money. It's about doubling down on segregation, discrimination, and inequality.
