On the other hand, it’s promising that AUSAs are willing to say “these people are my colleagues but I am willing to put them in jail.” These people are all former T14 biglawyers, getting them to overcome this collegiality inertia is normally impossible

To your point about the bond sales: the book is (incidentally) a great reminder that the market is a collection of human participants, not an exogenous Thing. Salesmen had to sell bonds to real life buyers, whose risk appetites had an outsized effect on the war effort
