Get in, loser. We're damning torpedoes!
Pff.

They're not even cool enough to be also named after a random Italian cartographer who never visited their country.

There's a whole string of bad choices on her part, but that was the "point-of-no-return" mistake.

In principle I agree, but the reality is that Fani Willis utterly destroyed the case long ago.

It was going to be a heavy lift under the law either way, but when her various questionable decisions and ethics violations became public there was no further point. The case was already wrecked.

Seriously, what IS is with Hollywood and the completely random leather bracers everywhere?
November 26, 2025 at 5:48 PM
Well that's just awful.

On the safety front, I wonder if we could compromise on a single stairwell with safety upgrades to permit better evacuation and emergency response. Two cramped, difficult staircases might not be that useful.

Oh no, I just learned Robert Redford passed away.

To quote Futurama: "Perhaps, some Egyptians believe."

Honestly at this point I think they should just make a refitted Arleigh-Burke mk. 2 and make more hulls.

This will sound incredibly dumb: imagine a city of Yodas, but it's Space Brooklyn.

"Eh! Walkin 'here, I am!"

"Overrated, Julianas is. To Luigis, we should go. Mrhuhuhrhrm!"

"Lived my whole life, and to the Space Statue of Liberty, never been have I."

I, for one, would not want to try running up Missionary Ridge even without armed defenders.

Although these days you'd be greeted by an annoyed homeowner wondering why you're huffing and puffing to ascend up the backyard.

Also also, according to the Trump 2 admin, we were supposed to be in the "good times" already. Now they're flailing around trying to undo the things they've done and don't seem to have any ideas beyond maybe not punching ourselves in the face as hard in the future.

Spice it to your taste: they're virtually all 0-calorie in the quantities you would cook with. Be careful if you make it with Sweetened Condensed Milk though.

Also, the Empire should have learned a very crucial lesson: Always respect your engineers. See how that turned out!

More topically, there's a good warning about the difference between the feeling of power and real control. It must be *earned*, not *taken*.
November 26, 2025 at 12:35 AM
One good bit of subtext was how the Empire's desire for control kept doing exactly what Leia predicted: the tighter they grip, the more critical pieces slipped through.

At the end of it, the Empire wrecked two planets it already controlled beyond habitation and got worse than nothing in return.

CGI Tarkin was an abomination. I have never understood the people who thought it looked convincing. Even framed in shadow it was a failed experiment, but it was also an insult to acting. Guy Henry, the stand-in, would make a great Tarkin if they let him.

If Chotinger smiled slightly too long in my direction I would abandon civilization to live as an secretive Holy Hermit, meditating on the Word of God for the rest of my days.

The Last Jedi should be number 10.

I'm no military genius, but that's no worry.

It would be functionally impossible to make use the bridge without total air superiority. It complete favors the defender in any scenario. Artillery, airpower, seapower can stop all attacks. Even a concrete barricade and rifleman could do.
November 24, 2025 at 11:55 PM
I like it myself, but would really like to see the grimdark cut they originally teased just to understand the difference. That was the premise that hooked me but didn't appear on-screen.

If there is a fault with Star Trek, it's that almost no place or planet feels very "lived-in". The Planets-of-the-Week are barely noticeable, whereas Tatooine / Coruscant are iconic. The "real" places in Star Trek are the Enterprise or DS9, and *maybe* Starfleet Academy, not where most live or work.

You'd get some pretty amazing views, certainly. Could also be quite good for Aland.

Finland and Sweden have been studying proposals to bridge the Baltic. It's feasible in a couple areas due to large islands in the straight.

So it may be quite convenient in the future to catch a train from Stockholm to Helsinki.

Or thought he was Sauron, and not Saruman.

The latter was all-too easily subverted, and imagining himself a mighty puppetmaster manipulating all things, became an easily-defeated joke whose greatest success lay in dominating the Shire for about several months.

Luxemburg, we need to talk...

About how awesome you are!
