We've written a Researcher's Guide to Bluesky!

It's a bit like all those other useful guides to Bluesky, but with several useful insights from University of York academics about using the platform, and we'd love it if it was reposted far and wide...

We are very open over the Christmas vacation! 8am - midnight as usual. 🎄

We're closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Otherwise, 362 days of pure openness.

More granular detail below. (If you're leaving York for vacation, please return your books before you go!)

We refuse to believe this is real... 😄

This was surely made by a GenAI tool trying to sabotage the movement from within.

There's so much going on here. 👀

Oh joy, another helpful AI infographic via LinkedIn. Off I go to my job as a liberaian, maybe to run some critical evaligane workshops and of course use New! Boulean! Logic!

Really exciting news from our partnership with @openbookcollective.bsky.social.

We're now supporting @lsepress.bsky.social + @archumanities.bsky.social to help open up scholarly publishing and the open research ecosystem. This stuff really matters - more detail in the thread below. 🔓

As it's come up (THANK YOU Jane!) allow us to tell you that The Box of Delights - surely the greatest Christmas TV programme of all time - is on Box of Broadcasts because it was reshown in full last year for the 40th anniversary...

What a great piece and what a fabulous photo this one in particular is, of the Avocado under a bronze sky...
New story from “Curator’s Diaries” is out now on Medium! Have you always wondered about the sculpture on the ramp leading to the Library @uoylibrary.bsky.social? Have a read of why the piece is where it is and how it can uplift your day if you have a proper look at it!

The Avocado, or how the longer route often leads to better things
One of the perks of being an art curator at a large university is that you’re never stuck in one place. Here at York, artworks are to be…

Look at this one though. Click on it and have a proper look, it is *delightful*.

Positively Narnia-esque.

Have people seen the Uni of Sheffield GenAI prompt bank? sheffield.ac.uk/study-skills...

It's an effort to make GenAI interactions more structured and efficient with specifically academic prompts to support specifically academic activities.

We'd be really interested in your views on it.

(We'll gloss over the number of Danish pastries consumed in the cafe next door. Ahem.)
The Morrell Library is 59 years old today!

Join us on a brief pictorial trip back in time with his much loved* brutalist building, starting with this cracking picture of the mid-60s campus, with the Morrell behind Central Hall.

Look at those crisp architectural lines. Woof.

Next up: plans >> 🧵

We know a lot of our followers use Academia Edu - definitely worth reading the new Ts and Cs before deciding whether to accept them...

I'm sorry, worldwide, irrevocable, non-exclusive, transferable permission to my voice and likeness? For what now? In any manner for any purpose???

This is in academia/.edu's new ToS, which you're prompted to agree to on login. Anyway I'll be jumping ship. You can find my stuff at hcommons.org.

The library cafe has had what the young people would describe as ‘a glow up’ and it is now seriously nicer than it was before.

Importantly, the coffee is *objectively* nicer than it was previously, in our opinion… ☕️
