Lillard essentially caught a stray in Tarantino’s takedown during a recent appearance on Bret Easton Ellis’ podcast, with the bulk of the director’s ire focused on actor Paul Dano and his performance in There Will Be Blood. [highlight] But the casual, dismissive, Arrested Development-esque “I don’t care for Matthew Lillard” was, in some ways, crueler than Tarantino’s vitriolic assertions that Dano is “the weakest fucking actor in SAG” and “the limpest dick in the world” [highlight]—especially since, unlike Dano, Lillard didn’t immediately have big-name directors and supporters stepping up to push back against Tarantino’s snap judgments.

The GOP is far from "fucked." They could still use force or stop elections altogether. This is prematurely celebratory.
Bouie thread: a thing to ask yourself re: the GOP's electoral position is what could happen over the next year that could *improve* its position? and what could trump do, plausibly, that might *boost* his numbers with the public? if you struggle to answer either then you have a good sense of how fucked the republicans are right now

Instead, it is illegible in ways you can’t imagine. Historians will study how bad this book is. English teachers will hold this book aloft at their students to remind them that literally anyone can write a book: Look at this, it’s just not that hard to do. Three hundred pages with no chapter breaks, it swerves back and forth through time, from Nuzzi’s interviews with Donald Trump over the years to her combustible relationship with fellow annoying journalist Ryan Lizza to her alleged affair with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as he was running for president himself. [highlight] Reading it is like spending time with a delusional fortune cookie: platitudes that feel like they were run through a translation service three times. [highlight]

The daughter wants to ride one of the horses (in the game the “horses” are humans wearing a horse mask) and gets to pick which one. [highlight]What followed was an interactive dialogue sequence where the player is leading, by a lead as if they were a horse, a naked adult woman with a young girl on her shoulders. The scene is not sexual in any way,[highlight] but it is possible that the juxtaposition is what triggered the flag. We have since changed the character in the scene to be a twenty-something woman, both to avoid the juxtaposition and more importantly because the dialogue delivered in that scene, which deals with the societal structure in the world of Horses, works much better when delivered by an older character.

I have never been able to convey her near-total obsession with Bobby properly. What I can say with authority is that it seeped into every corner of her life, affected every relationship she had, and drove every decision she made in late 2023 and all of 2024, including her catch-and-kill operations on his behalf, the campaign strategy memos she wrote him, and the other journalistic transgressions that have still not been disclosed.

Olivia had written a tabloid-style news story about how “sources in Washington, D.C. and Charleston have been buzzing recently about an unexpected romance: Mark Sanford and Olivia Nuzzi,” who was described as “one of the most famous political reporters in America,” a “blonde beauty” who “gained critical acclaim as a skilled profile writer, gaining access to the powerful and the mysterious and turning it into pure journalistic gold.”
