One breakaway group doesn’t erase the systemic harm mainstream Mormonism has inflicted on LGBTQ+ people. The LDS Church—the most powerful Mormon institution—has pushed anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric, policies, and political efforts for decades. Ignoring that history isn’t inclusivity, it’s denial.

Religion may be personal in how it’s practiced, but institutions define its doctrine, enforce its rules, and shape its cultural impact. No major religion exists in a vacuum, detached from the organizations that create and enforce its teachings.
