Does he have an inferiority complex about Unai? After PSG knocked Arsenal out, Arteta said they (Arsenal) were the best team in the tournament… when PSG themselves have said Villa had them more rattled than anyone (plus Liverpool only lost on pens)

Yes, from Villa perspective, what we really needed was UCL qualification back to back. We should have, really… we underperformed in first half of season… but for both clubs, back to back UCL qualifications would be transformational, if either of us can do it over the next few seasons

Yep, same to you. I dislike your owners but that’s not on the fans and was happy for the fans to see a trophy after so long. I dare say some emotional moments there for everyone, especially when thinking of those who never got to see it happen

A very good option, I think. Maybe that is shaped by the fact that he made a big impact against us off the bench. I think he’d have to be comfortable with not starting which may be an issue if dropping down a little

He’s been looking sharp in pre-season so if he has shaken off the injuries that have hampered him last couple of seasons, he’ll be great for you. Think he’ll suit your style well. Shame to see him go but a good fee, given he has Rogers ahead of him for us. Win-win but hopefully not before Saturday!

No, probably not. If United offered a loan deal for Martinez, I wouldn’t take their negotiation tactics very seriously, however much a draw they usually are

Yeah, without those injuries we probably don’t get Martin. I’d say Laursen the better player, Mellberg the better for Villa, given he had more time with us. Loved both though

Good piece. The triumphalism of fans is a concern, and I say that as a Villa fan. Regulator is key but I doubt that’s going to have the scope and/or teeth to serve the good of the game. And only FIFA can really tackle multi club ownership, which is, err, let’s say unlikely

Yeah, I suspect he’s going to have a good career, probably a lot in the Prem. But it’s so much to ask for players to break through at the level we are at. All the best to Kaine
