Gas being cheap is a big part but when you have so many PHEVs like this one that make 381hp in hybrid mode but only 134hp in EV mode (for 5940lbs), that lack of EV mode power HAS to play a factor too.

Many current PHEVs basically treat their EV modes as gimmicks with low range and malaise performance. That's better than having no EV mode for sure, but without policy to discourage use of the ICE there aren't many downsides to using PHEVs as hybrids when gas is as cheap as it is.
