To check whether the light enters the objective straight, I am using another useful tool that should be part of every optical lab: a long double pinhole, this time it is assembled with Thorlabs parts. The longer the double pinhole, the more precise your alignment will be #microscopy #photonics 🔬🔧💪😀

Are you using darkfield microscopy in your lab? I used it frequently to check the distribution of nanoparticles/fiducials for superresolution microscopy / SMLM / iPALM at Janelia - It’s such a powerful 💪 but underestimated microscopy technique 🔬😀

If you don't have fancy fluorophores around for science outreach events, a bottle of tonic water & a UV light source can be a great start as well to introduce students to the basics of fluorescence 🌈 🚀😎 #microscopy #optics #photonics - Please try to avoid the Jablonski diagram 😉👇
