During the Conference, the guests took a tour around the Botanical Garden. On the third day, the participants visited the Institute of Botany and had an excursion to the National Herbarium of Ukraine (KW). Further, they moved to Bila Tserkva to visit the ‘Olexandriya’ Arboretum.

Participants presented the results of their research on floristics, plant systematics, plant physiology and biochemistry, phytosociology, algology, lichenology, mycology, etc. We heard such interesting reports and had agile discussions.

Young researchers from various scientific and educational institutions across Ukraine took part in the event. Despite the electricity outage, caused by the russian attack on the energy infrastructure in Kyiv, the Conference was held.

Yakiv Didukh, the president of UBS, opened the Conference and gave a speech about the economic consequences of the war on the nature of Ukraine.Jamal Rakhmetov, deputy director of the Botanical Garden, talked about the history of the Garden and the contribution of its scientists.

Besides, the Ukrainian Botanical Initiative provides a contest for the best photos that appear on the cover of the Bulletin and its pages. The topic of the competition was fungy. Maria Zykova’s photo of Spinellus fusiger on Mycena sp. won and it is on the cover of the issue.

Among them, the book “Kam’yanska Sich National Nature Park: The War Against Nature” (ukr. Національний природний парк «Камʼянська Січ»: Війна проти природи) tells about the horrific consequences of the war on nature, in particular on protected areas with unique ecosystems.

Studying the dark diversity shows that each studied site “lost” representatives that potentially have occurred there even in the sites with relatively low human impact. Among the putative reasons for such a phenomenon, are fragmentation, pollution, etc.
