There has never been a more exciting, devastating and terrifying time to be working on climate and the energy transition. We can get super cynical about COPs and about our progress since Paris or we can dig in and try and build hope.

So, I'm heading to Brazil to build some hope. To support the countries who continue to cooperate to save lives and livelihoods, who are willing to tell the truth about the science and stand up to the fossil fuel lobby.

With sweat, tears, sore feet, power bars and likely a lot of bad coffee. Hope is not something we just get to have (as the indefatigable and brilliant Rebecca Solnit says) — it’s something we create with our actions.

I am excited for the launch of the new Journey Fund. $200m in its first round for clean energy projects in countries that are working on the Fossil Fuel Treaty.

My dream to connect leadership on fossil fuel phase out with private equity support for the just transition is finally happening!
🔥🌎Breaking news from Belém

💸Just one week before #COP30, at the Global Citizen Festival: Amazônia, the first ever fund pairing government fossil fuel phase-out commitments with private investments was launched — the Journey Fund, developed in partnership with the #FossilFuelTreaty Initiative!

I am hopeful that more countries will join the bloc of nations (now 17 💪🏻) that are participating in the development of the @fossiltreaty.bsky.social Initiative

and about Colombia hosting the first ever international conference for the phase out of fossil fuels in April.

✊ Just as international cooperation succeeded in banning global threats such as nuclear weapons and ozone-depleting substances, today Colombia is opening the door to ending the era of fossil fuels and defending life with concrete solutions.

To be clear I am heading to COP30, because although, in large part, progress has been insufficient to protect what we love and keep us safe, no country or company can do this alone.

We need multilateral cooperation and there are signs of hope.
