If you're wondering if the artwork, called 'Passage', in Combe Down Tunnel, will be powered up again, Sustrans will be organising this in association with other electrical work to the lighting there - the intention is to have it going again 'By the end of this year'.

What we cannot provide: snow in Lyncombe Vale in July '25 (so far).

What we can provide: ~14° centigrade in the tunnels.

Cool in the tunnel and 'Grass snake spring warmth' on emerging.

Even though it's no longer running from the inspection hatch, the tunnel drain is still in a spot of trouble, this one is with @sustrans.bsky.social

Saturday morning and heading through the tunnel to a cheerful bramble work party in the cutting beyond the south portal.

There's also a (shallow) flood there, slightly improved after some spadework.

Something is blocking the tunnel drain though.
The issue's logged with @sustrans.bsky.social.

This evening. Devonshire Tunnel has been reopened.
February 6, 2025 at 5:32 PM
When the route reopens, we don't expect the queues that were seen at its opening in 2013, but it'll be good to see Devonshire Tunnel back in use and more resilient.

You might remember this vista, looking along Linear Park, with the cap of the access shaft to Devonshire tunnel in the foreground.

Once the cutting was filled, the view from a similar position was less inspiring.

Flooding at that point was in evidence shortly after the line closed. This photo most likely dates to winter 1966-7.

Another photo from Maple Grove Bridge, but from today, January 29th. Though the weather was clear, it was tipping it down. Thankfully not water though.

The current projected date for Devonshire Tunnel to reopen, according to a correspondent:

7th February 2025.

The Devonshire Tunnel works to address flooding: we've discovered that the entrance to Linear Park from Bloomfield Road opens space is now closed for a week (from Monday 13th January). More shortly...

Galleries... do we count? We're a shared-use path with a tunnel or two: if the Stockholm metro didn't exist, the artwork in one of the tunnels might make it the longest gallery anywhere, ever.

Anyway, our 2008 fundraiser pigs....

Photos include 'Pig in a Poke' who's a bit #JaneAusten.

The route remains closed at Devonshire Tunnel while works to address the flooding are completed. The reopening date has been set back and it's now expected that the tunnel will be reopened in mid to late January.

At Devonshire Tunnel, the route remains closed while the drainage works progress.

Various pumping operations under way this morning, and a plume of condensate rising in the crisp air - the water from the tunnel drain giving the impression that you could boil an egg. (spoiler, nope.)

The work well under way at Devonshire Tunnel, and thanks due to the person who's given Harry Patch a poppy.

Devonshire Tunnel is now closed to allow the drainage improvement works to be completed.
November 6, 2024 at 10:00 AM
Meanwhile, on the Two Tunnels route, works to improve the drainage from the dip at the entrance to Devonshire Tunnel are in progress. In early November, there will be a complete closure of the route at this point to allow the works to be completed.

Welcome to our new followers here. If you encounter an issue with the route, please tell us, it helps.

The photo below, from 2021, is of an old foe, this tree survived the route opening's heavy maintenance on Tucking Mill viaduct. We'll be paying it another visit: it's hopefully been removed.

We'll not be using our account on 'X' for the time being*.

If you're after news from the route, you may well hear it here first. We're grateful to followers and supporters, new and old.

*Very probably, we'll never use it again.
