Two links given at the end of an article on the ABC's website regarding yesterday's Federal Election (3rd May 2025). The first link is headlined, "Labor landslide win makes history" Analysis by Brett Worthington. The second link is tagged with Australian Greens and is headlined with, "Tough results for Greens, as leader Adam Bandt fights close contest for his seat. This second link is irrelevant to my point (sorry). I have highlighted the first link with a red circle. This is the link I clicked on in the expectation of reading an article about our re-elected Labor Government. This second image is a screenshot of the article I was served up after clicking on a link purportedly about "Labor landslide win makes history." Instead, the link lead to this - a photo of the now former leader of the opposition, Peter Dutton, on stage with his family as he concedes the Australian Federal Election whilst also losing his seat. The existential crisis appears irreversible. The party will spend the next week squabbling over who will replace Peter Dutton as leader, but that person will never be prime minister. The Coalition is in no position to win the next election. Rather than fight its way to a winnable position for 2028 under a two-term strategy, it has gone backwards, badly. Labor is almost assured of a third term. On Saturday night, the Liberals said the party needed to do some soul-searching, but it has no soul to search. For the second successive election, it has been stripped of its frontline and emerging talent, almost all moderates. The broad church is no more. It is left with the same fools who keep arguing that lurching further to the right and engaging in culture wars is the answer.

They've moved to preferences now. An hour ago there were only 1,325 votes between Independent Ben Smith and Lib. Zoe McKenzie, but it's more than 2,000 now with Ms. McKenzie still leading.

The annual report warns of the infiltration of authoritarian practices, the crackdown on dissent globally and the overall annihilation of international law. "Year after year, we have warned of the dangers of human rights backsliding. But events of the past 12 months - not least Israel's livestreamed but unheeded genocide of Palestinians in Gaza - have laid bare just how hellish the world can be for so many when the most powerful states jettison international law and disregard multilateral institutions," said Agnes Callamard, Amnesty International's secretary general. Callamard added that as "authoritarian laws and practices" increase worldwide to satisfy the interest of a small portion of people, "governments and civil society must work with urgency to lead humanity back to safer ground". The Australian Conservation Foundation Scorecard Explained What is ACF's election scorecard? The Australian Conservation Foundation's election scorecard is designed to help voters understand how well the climate and nature policies of political parties and candidates align with ACF's national agenda. We have assessed the main parties (Labor, Liberal/National Coalition, Greens), incumbent independent MPs in the House of Representatives and independent candidates in electorates with high numbers of ACF supporters. What it's not ACF's scorecard is not an endorsement of any party or candidate. It's an issue-based assessment that shows how closely parties and candidates align with our policy agenda for protecting nature and acting on climate. Methodology 1. Survey - we asked parties and candidates if they supported each of the 16 outcomes in ACF's national agenda. 2. Research - we analysed the parties and candidates' survey responses, public policies, voting records and statements and measured them against all 54 tests of success in ACF's national agenda. In instances where candidates/parties have not responded to the survey, ACF has assessed their public statements and policies alone. How we determined the final scores ACF's national agenda outlines four key policy goals, 16 outcomes needed to achieve those goals, and 54 detailed tests of success. Each outcome in ACF's national agenda is worth 3 to 5 points (based on ACF's priorities) on the scorecard. Points for outcomes are split across the relevant tests of success. We awarded full, partial or no points, based on evidence from the surveys and our research. We shared an interim score with candidates and parties to give them a chance to provide further information or context before we determined a final score. 8/8 You seem like a decent person, although it's difficult not to see you, Hastie and Dutton as shameful users of our armed forces - don't sell yourself out by letting the Liberals fund your political career. Being dragged down by association would be a sorry end for someone who wants to continue serving their community. The Liberal Party of Australia will NOT help you to help others.

4/8 If you truly care about "right from wrong" and not "left or right" please a) heed the request of the ADF and quit using your uniform as though you have the backing and legitamcy of the entire military forces of Australia sharing your views and, b) look at how the Liberal Party has cast their votes over and over again to gut education (when they're not busy outright cheering for ignorance), privatise health care and Aged Care, vote against increasing support in the regions (why use government funds when Peter can just set up a GoFundMe for flood victims, right?)

As it took a great deal of effort to stop the #Liberal of Victoria from emailing me as though we were friends, I'm posting this here rather than to Mr. Darcy Dunstan personally. Given that I've just seen the use to which the #Rapist-In-Chief has put the #USMilitary, this seems ...timely.

1/8 To Darcy Dunstan, Liberal for Corangamite, Victoria: Former members of the ADF have been asked not to wear uniforms in their campaigns in order to keep the Defence Forces apolitical. I'm sure, if you gave it a little thought, you'd realise why that is so important. If you truly care about "right and wrong" not "left and right" you'd have run as an independent.
