On May 18, 1980, David A. Johnston, a dedicated USGS volcanologist who earned his Ph.D at the @UW and the PNSN, was on duty monitoring Mt. St. Helens. That morning, he issued the now-famous warning, “Vancouver! Vancouver! This is it!”, during the first moments of the eruption.

🧪 🔭 The James Webb Space Telescope released 19 high-res images of nearby face-on spiral galaxies in near- and mid-infrared light, revealing spiral arms brimming with stars—and red orbs where still-forming stars are encased in gas and dust. Examine them all: webbtelescope.pub/3SxNSaU

As the ring turns: our first results are out from the 2018 Event Horizon Telescope 🔭🧪 campaign, and the ring around the M87* black hole has shifted 30°! Congrats to the team! We're not entirely sure what it means but we have a few ideas, stay tuned for the Theory & Interpretation paper coming soon!
