A perfect cosplay doesn’t exist. A cosplay I’m proud of does. When perfectionism tries to talk you out if appreciating all your hard work. Not everyone will know who I’m cosplaying, but those who do will be stoked to see a nostalgic or deep cut. When you’re not cosplaying “on trend” It’s okay to say it’s good enough and go to bed. When you’re con crunching and don’t want to do this anymore. There is not a single thing you need to change about your body to cosplay. When you’re hearing toxic and unrealistic discourse around body and appearance in cosplay.

You are cringe and you can be free What is “cringe”? Honestly it depends who you ask, but it’s used to shame people for something they like or for being themselves. Saying something is cringe is positioned as maturity, being “too cool” and therefore employing bullying tactics to make others edit or reduce themselves into the mainstream or “normal”. But that’s not what maturity is Maturity is understanding that “normal” is relative. That sports and music are fandoms too. That bullying is a reflection of one’s own insecurities. Maturity is also understanding that constructing a persona to fit the mainstream is really just a sad waste of your very limited time on this Earth. So be cringe. Because life is too short for us to bully each other out of our passions and authentic self-expression.

Glomping You knew this one was coming. Glomping was running full speed at someone (usually a cosplayer dressed as a character you liked) and leaping onto them. Glomp circles were this but toned down and crossed with spin the bottle… I think? Anyway, it was super dangerous, and thankfully we now have needed conversations about consent, personal space and safety. Demonia Boots Those BOOTS. An icon. These specifically came up for folks cosplaying from Organization XIII. Being accurate height was a concern for a shining moment and these boots were the answer!
