I’ve always been a bit sus about museums’ relationship to the market www.nytimes.com/2025/04/27/a...
How Hauser & Wirth Took Over N.Y.C.’s Museums This Spring (Gift Article)
Hauser & Wirth artists have major exhibitions everywhere you look, spotlighting the rising influence of powerful art galleries on the city’s top museums, a Times report found.

How much of the “biological bootloader” (humanity) would he be willing to sacrifice to get to the “superintelligence?”

This is pretty scary rhetoric.

“A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius”

What are the current thoughts? I haven’t read it in ~20 years.

As #genx when I first read it, it was the first — only — time I had read literary fiction that mirrored my own internal monologue. It was as if the voice was mine.

Casually wondering what the GDP of a nation combining the west coast, reliably blue states like Illinois, the northern east coast (New England, NY), & Canada would be.

Could that nation compete with China? Help reinforce Europe and NATO? Basically take the place of the US internationally?

Something that’s under appreciated about web3 is that companies market protocols, not platforms.

It’s a big difference!

If you don't want your speech infringed, then use protocols instead of platforms.

You also want your protocol to be decentralized.

Not to sound condescending, but if you don't understand what that means, hit me up in the comments and I'll explain :)

Lots of people are posting egregious bullshit from the Douthat / Andreeson interview, but the doublespeak in this passage is off the charts.

Let me try to describe how full of shit Andreeson is.

If a turd had the luminosity of a firefly, you’d need a welding mask to look at this guy.

He could illuminate all of NYC.

If you launched him into orbit he’d be clearly discernible at high noon.

Sailor: I guess I started smoking when I was about... four. My momma was already dead then from lung cancer.

“Old” media certainly had issues, but it was relatively fair, it aligned reality for the majority and that reality was based on truth. Overall they took their position seriously; acted ethically.

It’s disappearing.

We’ll have only chaotic info spaces where the truth is decided by broligarchs.

This is the correct take.
Dems are still operating in a political paradigm where the public has a set of concerns, roughly reflecting the reality of life in America, and elections are about who addresses them better.

But that is not the political paradigm we’ve lived in, for a long time, and we’re getting further from it.

Just finished reading “James,” which is very good.

So now, of course, reading Huck Finn again. It is truly extraordinary.

“James” opens a whole new way to read it.
