Rathcroghan is also steeped in Irish myth, and the starting point for Ireland's ancient epic - The Táin Bó Cúailnge.

You'd love the Beara Peninsula in the southwest, it's full of stone circles, standing stones and hauntingly beautiful scenery

Not to my knowledge. I dont think any excavations have happened on the site since that early one. Would be interesting to revisit the archive for sure!

Interestingly, this same mound was used for burial again over a thousand later in the early medieval period, when 24 stone lined graves were inserted into Cnoc Raithní.
